Pastor Rapes and Impregnates Teenage Girl In His Church

Following his arrest and arraignment, an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered a Pastor, Ilesanmi Emmanuel of Christ Apostolic Church to be remanded in prison custody for the raping and impregnating of a teenage girl.
Magistrate Adefunke Ajibade described the case as a pathetic one, especially as it involved a minor and a pastor that should be a father and shepherd of flocks in a public church.

Pastor Emmanuel allegedly told the girl that she would die if she tells anyone he had intercourse with her.

The prosecutor, Mr Curtis Enabulele told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 12 at Ikere-Ekiti. He alleged that the accused raped the minor [name withheld], who is a member of his church which resulted to pregnancy.
Counsel to the accused person, Oluwaseyi Adeniyi, urged the court to grant his client bail and assured that he would not jump bail.

But the Counsel to International Federation of Female Lawyers, Ekiti chapter, Mrs Foluke Dada, opposed the application. She said if the Pastor is granted bail he would be a threat to other teenage girls in the church and the society at large.

Mrs Dada told the court that the accused had threatened that the victim would die within seven days if she confessed to anyone that he raped her.

Magistrate Ajibade thus denied bail and remanded Pastor Emmanuel in prison custody. He adjourned the case to April 4 pending the advice of the state Director of Public Prosecution.

How Osaze Has Lost Over N40 Million In Fines Paid To West Brom

Nigerian striker, Peter Odemwingie has been punished with another fine for his latest Twitter where he insinuated that West Brom are trying to ruin his career.

He has now been fined over £170,000 for various outbursts on the social media site.

The latest one could have gotten Odemwingie sacked but the club will not be going that way though it is now almost sure that he will be sold in the summer with one year left on his contract.

He said on Twitter: “If they like they shouldn’t even give me 10 mins to play. Threatening to ruin my career? Career I closed already last summer? No harm to me.

“Want to treat me like an average player. The abuse and praise I get is it average? So get some extra from me too.”
The 31-year-old had ridden to Queens Park Rangers during January’s transfer deadline to push through a transfer but he was snubbed at the gate and fined £75,000 for a Twitter outburst afterwards.

West Brom issued a statement which read: “The club is aware of comments made by Peter Odemwingie which will be dealt with internally.”

He has also been involved in a fierce clash with Steven Reid in the medical room at the club’s training ground.

Odemwingie was signed for £2 million from Lokomotiv Moscow in August 2010 and has played just 22 times in the league this season with five goals. Though he scored 10 and 15 goals in the last two seasons to emerge as the Baggies’ highest goals scorer.

In his account, Emmanuel Bassey, a 40-year-old bus park tout who survived the blast revealed his encounter with the suicide bomber before he struck.
Bassey who claimed to work for Ezewanta Group of Motors stated that “the guy came in a blue Golf car, I could recall that he was dark in complexion and appeared to be in his mid 30’s. He was calm during my brief interaction with him and did not look harmful. I asked him where he was going, and he said, ‘I have not decided’, and in no time some of my colleagues at the park  were rushing towards him and suddenly he sped off, applied brake close to a loaded vehicle and in a twinkle of an eye, I heard a loud bang that sent me sprawling on the ground”, Bassey explained.
He revealed that four of his colleagues who were running after him to ascertain which part of the southern part of the country he wanted to go all died on the spot due to the impact of the blast.
Bassey who suffered second degree burns cried out: “Men, I saw hell and believed that I was going to die before some good Samaritan brought me to the hospital.
Bassey lost his skin and his stomach was ripped open by the blast but has undergone several procedures and appeared to be in a stable condition. Bassey who complained of excessive heat on his sick bed displayed a deep hole on his stomach  saying: “I was simply not lucky on the day of carnage but all the same I give glory to God that I am alive but I hope government will do their best to bring the perpetrators to book”.

Anxiety in Ekiti State over Health Condition of Deputy Governor

Information emerging from Ekiti State government has revealed that there might be concerns over the health of the deputy governor of the state, Mrs Funmi Olayinka.
According to a statement by the Ekiti State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, “Ekiti State government wishes to inform members of the public that the deputy governor of the state, Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka, has taken leave to attend to issues relating to her health.” The two-paragraph statement then added: “we urge all well-meaning citizens of the state to remember her in their prayers.”
However, a source in the government said that the deputy governor only applied for leave, saying she could do whatever she wanted with her leave.
Earlier, there had been anxiety over the health of the deputy governor among her supporters; it only became heightened on Monday following the government statement. “Her health has been a source of concern. But with the government statement, it means that there is more to it now because they had kept mute all this while over the matter,” a source close to government said.

Ondo State Discovers 10, 000 Ghost Workers among its Local Governments’ Staff

Information emerging from the Ondo State Government has revealed that a committee set up by the government to look into the alleged over-bloated staff of local governments across the state has discovered about 10, 000 ghost workers in the 18 councils.
The committee, led by the former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Deji Falae, became necessary, following the discovery that many of the councils could not pay the salary of their members of staff. It was learnt that the state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, set up the committee after it was discovered that about N500 million of the fund of the state government was being used to augment salary of the local government councils.
It was also alleged that many of the chairmen of the affected councils had, in the past, loaded their wage bills and backdated appointments of workers. The problem, however, became obvious, when the councils went back to the days of zero allocation to their local governments; many of them found it difficult to pay staff salary, particularly after the implementation of the new minimum wage.
Meanwhile, the committee was also said to have discovered that many of the appointments were irregular, as the beneficiaries in many cases were not given letters of appointment, while some of the letters given out were handwritten and without proper documentation at the council.

Boko Haram suicide bomber allegedly kills six soldiers in Maiduguri

At least six soldiers on peace-keeping duty were killed when a suicide bomber ran into military patrol van on Tuesday in the central city of Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital, witnesses and military officials said.
The spokesperson of the Joint Task Force, JTF, Sagir Musa, however claimed, in an unusually prompt statement, that the blast killed only a soldier and injured three others.
An official of the General Hospital in Maiduguri told PREMIUM TIMES that he saw six corpses being taken to the general hospital in two patrol vehicles.
“The corpses were six in number; all of them soldiers. They were taken into the hospital and immediately the military came to evacuate them to the barracks,” said the official, who sought anonymity for not having the permission to talk to the media.
The witness’ statement was corroborated by military sources in the Borno capital.
Mr. Musa, a Lieutenant Colonel, said in an emailed statement that “a remote control Improvised Explosive Device planted by terrorists, targeted at JTF patrol vehicles exploded at First Bank/ Mr Bigs Round About in Maiduguri city at about 12:15 am today Tuesday, 19 March, 2013.”
“The blast led to the death of 1 soldier, 2 soldiers were wounded and a Toyota Hilux vehicle and a Civil Honda Accord car were damaged. No civilian casualty was recorded. The area was cordoned off and swept by the Bomb Disposal Arm of the JTF to avoid possible further explosion of undetonated bombs on poor innocent civilians. The suspected terrorists were arrested in connection with the incident.
“The incident occurred barely 24 hours after some trigger excited gunmen attacked four primary schools in the city killing 11 persons among which were four female teachers and pupils,” he added.
